PROBLEM
The following error is encountered when trying to send a fax using GFI FaxMaker Client through SMTP protocol. The log files indicates the error below:
The server rejected one or more recipient addresses. The server response was: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI FaxMaker
- GFI FaxMaker Client (SMTP)
SOLUTION
To allow relaying on a Microsoft Exchange 2013 server machine:
- Open the Microsoft Exchange Admin Center
- Open Mail Flow
- Select Receive Connectors
- Select the GFIFaxmaker connector
- Select Scoping
- You will need to define the IP addresses or network range of the computers that will be using the GFI FAXmaker client/Fax Machines/Email Printers to send their faxes. Click the Add button under Receive mail from remote servers that have these IP addresses to add these IP addresses.
- Enter the IP address or address range of the computers running the GFI FAXmaker Client, Fax machines, email printers.
- For example 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.1.1
- Click Save to save changes
- Close the Edit Window
To allow relaying on a Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 machine:
- Open the Microsoft Exchange Management Console
- Expand the Server Configuration node and click Hub Transport
- Under the Receive Connectors tab in the right pane, right click the GFIFaxmaker connector
- Click the Network tab
- You will need to define the IP addresses or network range of the computers that will be using the GFI FAXmaker client/Fax Machines/Email Printers to send their faxes. Click the Add button under Receive mail from remote servers that have these IP addresses to add these IP addresses.
- Enter the IP address or address range of the computers running the GFI FAXmaker Client, Fax machines, email printers.
- For example 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.1.1
- Click OK to save changes
- Click OK once again to save the changes to the connector
To allow relaying on a Microsoft Exchange 2003 machine:
- Open Exchange System Manager
- Expand Servers > Server name
- Expand Protocols > SMTP > Default SMTP Virtual server
- Right-click the SMTP Virtual Server for which you want to add relay restrictions and then click Properties
- Click the Access tab and then click Authentication
- On the Access tab, under Relay restrictions, click Relay
- In the Relay Restrictions box, click Add and then add the machines for which you need to allow relaying permissions
- To apply your configuration changes click OK twice
