Overview
Sometimes you inherit a FaxMaker system and no documentation was left for you about it or its setup. When this happens, you need to know whether your faxes are successful, what users are sending faxes and where your received faxes are going. This article provides information about where to look to find the information you need in the FaxMaker Configuration and FaxMaker logs.
Information
Verifying faxes being sent and received are successful
- Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\logs, the FaxMaker logs folder, by default.
- Open the sendlog.fmlogger and the rcvlog.fmlogger with a text editor.
- In this log file, you will see the faxes will be shown as success or failure
- You can also create a report from the FaxMaker web interface as described in the generating reports article.
Verifying which users can send faxes
- From programs open the FaxMaker Configuration.
- Select the Licensed Users node, from the left.
- Here the users that are allowed to send faxes are displayed.
Verifying where your received faxes are going
This process can be a little more time consuming as there are more areas to check on the server as well as possible network and email locations.
Folder locations and printers from Lines and devices
- From Programs, open the FaxMaker Configuration
- Select lines and devices > select Properties > select a line > select properties
- Select the Advanced tab
- On this tab, there are two options for received faxes
- Auto-print faxes received on this line: If enabled, the printer will be listed
- Back-up faxes received on this line: If enabled the file location will be displayed
Default router email box, users that receive all faxes and network share
- From Programs, open the FaxMaker Configuration
- Right-click Routing and select properties
- On the Default Routers tab, you will see the user names and email addresses
- On the Receive All Faxes tab, users who receive all faxes will be listed by user name and email address
- Finally on the Network Share tab, if faxes are being backed up to a share location, it will be listed here
Fax Routing
- From Programs, open the FaxMaker Configuration
- Expand the Routing node to list the routing types
- Select each sub-node to see if any routing rules have been created. If "There are no items to show in this view" is displayed, no routing rules have been created for this routing type.
- If you find there is a routing type with a rule, or several rules, select the rule and select properties
- On the Users tab, any FaxMaker user or group listed will receive a copy of the fax unless "Do not send transmission report" is selected.
- The Options tab lists the number of the rule
- The Printers tab lists any printer setup to print incoming faxes that this rule applies to
- Finally, the Backup2Folder tab will list any shares or folder locations in which faxes are deposited and their file format, upon this rule being applied
