Overview
This article provides information about where you can find your fax information and files if for some reason the services are stopped and you require the fax data.
Information
Fax information is stored in various places in FaxMaker depending on how far along the fax was in being processed by Faxmaker. When the services are running the information is constantly moving between folders and is in various states. These locations will be listed in order of operation by FaxMaker starting with outbound faxes, then inbound faxes.
Outbound Faxes
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\SinkDrop - This is the location that receives .eml files from the IIS SMTP server. Files in this location will be in .eml or .rsa format. This file location is monitored by the Message Transfer Agent service.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\out - This folder stores files that have been processed by the Message Transfer Agent and are awaiting processing by the Fax Server service. Files in this folder will be in the .sfm or .bdy or an attachment format, such as .pdf. This file location is monitored by the Fax Server service.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\out\pending - Files in this folder have been processed by the Fax Server Service and the document conversion process has usually taken place. If there are a lot of files in the out queue, document conversion may also take place from this location. Files in this location will be the same as in the FaxMaker\out folder or if document conversion has already taken place, then the attachment file will be a .tif file. These files are pending transmission. This folder is monitored by the Fax Server service.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\data\attachments - After processing and transmission, faxes are stored in this location. Successful faxes are stored by default for 2 days. Failed faxes are stored by default for 7 days.
Inbound Faxes
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\process - Inbound faxes are initially received and processed by the Fax Server service in this folder. Routing rules are processed here and files are quickly moved by the Fax Server service. Files are not generally stored in this location. If there is a file here, it will be in .fax format.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\in - This folder briefly stores inbound faxes and transmission reports for outbound faxes that are being sent to an end-user. Files in this folder will generally be of a .queued format, que3FD125E7.queued for example. The following folders are part of the FaxMaker\in folder structure and files do move between these folders regularly.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\in\emailqueue - Files in this folder are delivered by the Message Transfer Agent service and are currently in the email queue as FaxMaker sends them to end-users.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\in\undeliverable - Items in this folder are also delivered by Message Transfer Agent service and these files, also in a .queued format, are files that were unable to be delivered via email. Items in this folder are attempted to be delivered every 5 minutes and their results can be seen in the C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\logs\smtpin.fmlogger.txt log file.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker\in\unprocessed - These files are delivered by the Message Transfer Agent as well and are items that cannot be delivered to an end-user, usually due to an issue with a routing rule that caused processing of the inbound fax to unable to be delivered.
