Configuring Multi Function Printer and Copy Machine with the FaxMaker Server

Overview

MFP (multi-function printer) is a device that consolidates the options of a printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine into a single device.  These devices usually still use copper fax lines but have email capability.  Many brands such as Canon, HP LaserJet, Xerox, Lexmark and other copiers are able to be configured for use with FaxMaker.  This article addresses the integration of multi-function printers with GFI FaxMaker to send and receive faxes.

Environment

Any environment where FaxMaker is installed and multi-function printers exist in the same domain.

Solution

Removing the copper fax lines from the MFP machines and having them set up to send and receive faxes with FaxMaker on the network via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is achievable when sending using the following format: number@faxmaker.com from the MFP device.

These MFPs also must be assigned:

  • an email address
  • to the directory service (either Active Directory or GFI Directory)
  • as a licensed user in the FaxMaker Configuration.

Confirmation

Once the MFP is able to be added as a licensed user in the FaxMaker Configuration and can send a fax using the number@faxmaker.com format, the faxes should be sent out via FaxMaker.
