Overview

The purpose of this article is to provide information about why you may be able to remove users from your Active Directory Groups but still not reduce the Licensed User count in the FaxMaker Configuration. This can be crucial when in a license overage and new users need to be added.   

Environment

Any FaxMaker installation in an Active Directory environment.

Solution

This issue will usually only happen when Active Directory groups are being used in conjunction with FaxMaker.  Ensuring the supported groups are used is important when managing your FaxMaker licensed users.  The article Active Directory Requirements for Groups Used in FaxMaker Licensed Users explains what is supported when using groups with FaxMaker.  

If using Active Directory distribution groups, convert them to security groups and then the alterations required for licensing limits will be able to affect the user count.  

Confirmation

After setting up supported groups in Active Directory, altering the users in the Active Directory groups and in Licensed Users, in the FaxMaker configuration, will allow you to reduce the licensed user count for licensing restrictions.
